Product Details

This brief case presents a situation faced by the vice president of sales and business development at SeamlessWeb, an early-stage start-up seeking to expand its geographic footprint. After several months, it becomes clear that the young market manager for the company’s first new geographic market is underperforming. The head of sales and business development, who is also a SeamlessWeb cofounder, must determine how to address the circumstances. Issues include those related to managing the hiring and feedback processes in a start-up without formal mechanisms. This case is used at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business in the second-year "General Managers Taking Action" course. It would also be suitable for use in courses covering general management, entrepreneurship, and new venture creation.
