Product Details

This case asks students to take the perspective of Alexis Johnson, a recent MBA graduate who takes a role as an associate at a management consulting firm. The company offers no formal onboarding, forcing Johnson to turn to people in her personal, organizational, and strategic networks for information. Shortly after joining the firm, Johnson learns about an opportunity to join an exciting new initiative at the company. Yet committing to the new initiative would require leaving her current project and potentially damaging her relationship with her current manager. Johnson must decide whether to join the new initiative—which has few tangible details—or remain on her current project. To inform her decision, Johnson connects with different people in her network. At the conclusion of the case, she must commit to one of the projects. This case would be suitable for undergraduate or MBA courses on onboarding, career planning, and social and professional networks.
