The course has two distinct but related halves. The first half focuses on creating value for investors through wise investment decisions by managers. Students will build a conceptual and practical understanding of value creation and wise investing. The second half examines the allocating of value among all the stakeholders in a firm. Although value can be allocated in many ways, some of the most important are through the choice of financial policies, particularly dividend and debt policies, and the choice of major investment strategies, such as mergers and acquisitions. The second half of the course highlights how those policies are formulated and then executed.
